"Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within."

Dr. Gabor Maté

about me

My experience

I am a fully accredited Integrative Psychotherapist  and Art Therapist working with adults and adolescents in the Exeter area. Please note that I only work privately with adults.

Over the past twenty years I have worked in many different communities around the world, connecting with people and supporting them in telling their stories. I believe that the arts help us to express ourselves and to communicate in ways that go beyond words and I love to help people to find their story.

In the last few years I have managed a national project supporting teenagers who are struggling with self-harm and wanting to move towards recovery. I have also worked for a number of different charities in the areas of addiction, trauma and young people's services. I have experience of working within the NHS in adult mental health services, and have also run a counselling service in a secondary school.

Qualifications

MA Integrative Arts Psychotherapy (IATE)

Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutic Arts (IATE)

DIploma in Counselling Teenagers (IATE)

PgDip Acting (LAMDA)

MA (Cantab) English

My approach

Everything in therapy begins with a relationship. One where you feel safe, heard, believed and understood. From there we can start to make sense of your story together.

I love to use all kinds of arts materials as a way of exploring our experiences and stories. You do not need to have any kind of artistic training or experience for this. Instead I hope the arts offer us a way to play and express ourselves in a different way. I am also interested in how our bodies can communicate and what they tell us about our feelings. If this sounds strange and overwhelming please be assured that we will move at your pace and you will decide what you do or don't want to talk about.
