Finding a therapist is a very personal process. You need to find somebody you feel you can trust, and somebody you believe can help you.
I see therapy as a unique opportunity to build a relationship where you feel safe and understood, and where we can face some of our greatest challenges and most painful experiences, in the hope of moving to a life of increased joy and purpose.
Being an “integrative psychotherapist” means that I draw on a number of different approaches to therapy to find what is most helpful for each of my clients. My art therapy training means that I love to draw on all kinds of creativity - using images, paint, clay, sand tray, movement and poetry - as a way of exploring things that can be hard to talk about. I never enforce use of the arts but I make them available to everyone I work with.
I believe that the relationship we build in therapy is what enables us to grow and change, rather than any particular technique or theory. Openness, attunement and empathy are my starting points. If we can begin to build trust it starts to become possible for us to explore areas of distress or confusion. I believe that there is always a story and a context to our distress, and that making some sense of it can help us to heal.
I am open to working with all kinds of issues but have particular experience in relation to anxiety, depression, addiction, self-harm, historic abuse, trauma and PTSD.
I work privately with adults, alongside my work in CAMHS. Please note that my private hours are within the school day and I cannot currently offer evenings.
Most of my work is offered face to face in central Exeter but I do consider online work, so please get in touch if this is of interest to you.
